a look at daily practice

A couple of years ago, I was a fortunate recipient of an artist residency. Three writers, a potter, and I spent the entire month of October at the beautiful Anderson Center near Red Wing, Minnesota. The five of us lodged in a stately old mansion filled with books and memorabilia. We learned from one another.

In addition to lovely living quarters, I also received a studio with ample light, a sink, and a space heater.

A month of uninterrupted work time is a great gift. Even before I went, I decided to use my time to incubate ideas. I began by looking at the Quaker and Benedictine practices of simplicity, stewardship, and community.
